See What I Saw/Week

Dear Imagine That! Parent:
This week’s class time with the adults included the Active Listening activity “Bird Sounds.” Listening is an active learned skill, not a passive one. Listening involves attending, discriminating, understanding, and remembering. Analytical listening requires the child to evaluate what is heard, to weigh new information against what is already known, and to share thoughts.
“Listening is a learned behavior… [and] can be improved with practice. Listening affects social interactions, one’s level of functioning, and perhaps one’s overall success in life.”*
Enjoy some music together, listen for familiar sounds, and talk about what you hear. In this way, you will share some special moments with your child while helping him develop a very important skill!
