KINDERMUSIK FOR THE YOUNG CHILD, SEMESTER 2

Week 14 (Lesson 29)

Dear Young Child 2 Parent:

As we near the end of the semester, I invite you to look ahead to next year and the many topics the children will cover in Young Child 3 and Young Child 4. They include:

• Appalachian music, African-American music, Native American music, Jazz, music of the Pacific Islands, music of Europe, music of Africa, music of Central and South America
• Basic components of jazz, tap, and ballet dancing
• More music notation (treble clef, half note, single eighth note, half rest, flat sign, sharp sign, etc.)
• Meter (4/4 and 3/4)
• Music Form (ABA, Rondo)
• C Major Scale
• Ensemble playing and improvisation

What an enormous amount of learning! The children also learn to play two more instruments—the dulcimer and the recorder. By the end of two years of Kindermusik for the Young Child, your child will have learned the rudiments of an instrument (the glockenspiel) that relates to keyboard instruments, a stringed instrument (the dulcimer), and a wind instrument (the recorder).
